Job Description
  • This position is a high-level consultancy role focused on environmental economics and marine conservation finance. The Consultant will lead an assessment of Marine Protected Area (MPA) financing needs in Bangladesh, contributing to the development of a national sustainable financing plan for marine biodiversity conservation. The role involves research, stakeholder engagement, financial analysis, and policy-level recommendations for long-term sustainability of marine protected areas.

    Responsibilities & Context
  • Assess current financing mechanisms and funding gaps for Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in Bangladesh
  • Conduct detailed analysis of core financing needs at both national and site levels (e.g., SoNG and Nijhum Dwip MPAs)
  • Review government budgetary systems, conservation trust funds, and financing instruments
  • Develop evidence-based recommendations for sustainable MPA financing strategies
  • Engage with government agencies, NGOs, and local stakeholders for data collection and validation
  • Analyze conservation finance models and propose scalable solutions for Bangladesh context
  • Contribute to the development of a national sustainable financing plan for MPAs
  • Prepare high-quality analytical reports, policy briefs, and technical documents
  • Support workshops, consultations, and national dialogue on conservation financing
  • Coordinate with internal teams including marine advisors, project managers, and technical experts
  • Conduct site-level visits as required for field validation and stakeholder consultation
  • Ensure findings align with donor requirements and international conservation finance standards
