Job Description
  • Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is hiring a Lay Counselor Educator for its healthcare and community support activities in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar. The role focuses on providing basic counseling and health education to Hepatitis C patients, their families, healthcare staff, and community members. The position also involves patient support, community engagement, maintaining activity records, collecting feedback, and assisting the medical team with communication and translation when needed. Candidates should have at least an HSC certificate, 1 year of relevant experience, and fluency in Rohingya/Chittagonian dialect. A Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, or nursing and previous NGO/INGO experience are desirable.

    Responsibilities & Context
  • Provide basic counseling and health education to Hepatitis C patients, families, and community members.
  • Explain disease transmission, prevention, treatment plans, and follow-up procedures to patients and caretakers.
  • Organize individual and group counseling or educational sessions based on patient needs.
  • Refer patients to appropriate specialists or external services when additional support is required.
  • Collect patient feedback and share observations with supervisors to improve patient-centered care.
  • Support the medical team with Bangla-to-Chittagonian/Rohingya communication and translation when necessary.
  • Maintain updated records, statistics, and documentation of counseling and educational activities.
