Job Description
  • GIZ Bangladesh is seeking an experienced biodiversity professional for its “Better Protection of Mangroves, Swamp Forests and Marine Areas (CONNECT)” project.
  • The Advisor will support marine protected area management, biodiversity conservation, Blue Carbon assessments, and the implementation of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan. The position requires close collaboration with government institutions, particularly the Bangladesh Forest Department and Department of Fisheries, as well as coastal communities, scientists, and other stakeholders.
    • Requirements

    Education

    • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in in Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Fisheries, Forestry or a closely related field. Having a Masters in same discipline will be preferred.

    Responsibilities & Context
  • Provide technical and process advice to government authorities on marine protected area management, biodiversity conservation, and NBSAP implementation.
  • Facilitate coordination between the Bangladesh Forest Department, Department of Fisheries, and other environmental authorities, including support for a national MPA working group.
  • Support Blue Carbon and biodiversity assessments within marine protected areas, including monitoring, field data collection, and analysis.
  • Assist government partners in developing and implementing MPA management plans, marine zoning schemes, policies, and regulations.
  • Strengthen institutional capacity through training and technical assistance on GIS, remote sensing, spatial planning, biodiversity monitoring, and gender-responsive MPA management.
  • Engage government agencies, coastal communities, fishers, scientists, local governance bodies, and other stakeholders in sustainable protected-area management.
  • Prepare technical inputs, progress reports, research materials, and knowledge products while contributing to biodiversity surveys and national or regional MPA reporting.
